On September 15-16th 2016, the fifth annual joint workshop between Tel Aviv University and the University of California at Irvine (UCI) took place in Irvine, California (USA). This year's workshop was dedicated to "Functional and Nanomaterials" in honor of the opening of the new microscopy center at UCI and the desire to establish the international status of the materials science department at Tel Aviv University. The workshop was organized by Dr. Brian Rosen (TAU), Prof. Yosi Shacham (TAU), Dr. Lily Wu (UCI) and Dean of Engineering Gregory Washington (UCI). All core members of the materials science department presented at this workshop, as well as a number of relevant researchers from other departments at TAU and from around Israel.
