Measuring the Elastic moduli of materials using Ultrasonic method

Dr. Ofer Tevet

Density and sound wave velocities are easy to apply measurements in order to obtain the elastic moduli of fully dense or porous materials. The presentation will begin with short historical overview about powder technology, the main powder technology process and the main characterization methods.

In the main part of the presentation, different methods for Density measurements and Sound Wave Velocities will be described. I will elaborate how we can conduct accurate measurement of longitudinal and transverse Sound wave Velocities using Pule-Echo method, and how from those measurements how Young's, Shear, Bulk moduli can be calculated.

Using polygon sample and 12 measurements of sound wave velocities on that sample, in different directions offer to calculate 3D Young's modulus

Additive Manufacturing, Composite and Biomaterials samples are orthotropic materials (different properties in each direction). The system which will be built in TAU will be used to measure the 3D Young's modulus in those samples.
