Top secret! The Galim program – a hush-hush academic degree
A new academic collaboration between TAU's Faculty of Engineering and the IDF's elite intelligence units
The School of Electrical Engineering at TAU's Faculty of Engineering and the IDF's Intelligence Section have jointly initiated the new excellence program Galim (Waves), designed to train cyber engineering personnel for Israel's Defense Forces. The Galim program is an MSc track in Electrical Engineering for outstanding students, within the Academic Atuda program.
The program targets young people who had completed a BSc degree (in mathematics, physics or computer science) before their mandatory military service. It was developed and is supported by the technological units of the IDF's Intelligence Section, where its graduates will ultimately serve.
"The Galim program is one more important step in strengthening the ties between academia and industry, in this case the IDF. It utilizes the high potential of connecting outstanding youth with the needs of the IDF's intelligence units. This was the idea behind this most intensive MSc program (only three semesters), in which students take a large number of courses and then produce a final project", explains Prof. Mark Shtaif, Head of TAU's School of Electrical Engineering
