M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering
Curriculum
Stages: There are three stages of study. All of the stages require an advisor before starting
- Part-Time students: students working in the industry, and in parallel plan to complete an M.Sc. degree. They are admitted to the Accumulative Study (AS) Stage, which can last no longer than 3 academic years (minimum 3 courses per year). After this time, the student is transferred to the Regular Studies (RS) Stage, where they can complete their requirement.
- Minimum GPA during AS stage: 70
- Passing of courses: no later than semester 4. All mandatory courses should be taken in the first year of the M.Sc.
- Full-Time students: They are directly admitted to the RS stage
- Preliminary stage: Students who have been admitted to the M.Sc. despite not fulfilling the criteria for acceptance, must complete certain courses in the B.Sc. before continuing to regular M.Sc. track. Courses in the preliminary stage usually include the following:
- For those coming with a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering: Random Signals & Noise, Wave transmission & Distributed systems, Data structures & algorithms
- For those coming without a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering but with a B.Sc. in exact sciences: Signals & Systems, Random Signals & Noise and 2 more courses from the following: Electronic Devices, Electromagnetic Fields, Introduction to Control Theory, Data Structures & Algorithms, Energy conversion, Analog Electronic Circuits, Wave transmission and distributed systems, Digital Electronic Circuits, Classical Optics, Communication systems.
Study tracks: There are two tracks which students can choose from. Note that for either track, the advisor is solely responsible for approving the student’s curriculum.
- Research Track
- Only for full-time students
- Must complete the M.Sc. with a minimum 75 GPA
- Requires 24 credit points + a research thesis equal to 12 hours of study
- Student admitted to this track has until the end of fall semester to find an advisor (it is advisable to find an advisor prior to the start of the M.Sc.)
