M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering

M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering
Curriculum

Stages: There are three stages of study. All of the stages require a temporary advisor or fixed advisor before starting

  1. Part-Time students: students working in the industry, and in parallel plan to complete an M.Sc. degree. They are admitted to the Accumulative Study (AS) Stage, which can last no longer than 3 academic years (minimum 3 courses per year). After this time, the student is transferred to the Regular Studies (RS) Stage, where they can complete their requirement.
    1. Minimum GPA during AS stage: 70
    2. Passing of courses: no later than semester 4. All mandatory courses should be taken in the first year of the M.Sc.
    3. A student must study at least 25% of the courses as a full time student
  2. Full-Time students: They are directly admitted to the RS stage
  3. Preliminary stage: Students who have been admitted to the M.Sc. despite not fulfilling the criteria for acceptance, must complete certain courses in the B.Sc. before continuing to regular M.Sc. track. Courses in the preliminary stage usually include the following:
    1. 0542.3620, Heat Transfer
    2. 0542.2500 Fluid Mechanics 1
    3. 0542.2600 Thermodynamics
    4. 0509.2846 Partial Differential Equations (Given in English in the undergraduate B.Sc. in Electrical engineering)

Study tracks: There are two tracks which students can choose from. Note that for either track, the advisor is solely responsible for approving the student’s curriculum.

  1. Research Track
    1. Only for full-time students
    2. Must complete the M.Sc. with a minimum 75 GPA
    3. Requires 24 credit points + a research thesis equal to 12 hours of study
    4. Participation in 14 hours of seminars
    5. Student admitted to this track has until the end of fall semester to find an advisor (it is advisable to find an advisor prior to the start of the M.Sc.)
    6. Up to 3 courses of 9 credits can be studied. An additional course can be taken with the approval of the Graduate studies committee (up to 4 courses totaling 12 credits)
  2. Project Track
    1. Requires 36 credit points + a 3 point project
    2. Participation in 8 hours of seminars
    3. Can admit part-time students, however if a part-time student wants to transfer to the research track, they must find an advisor that agrees to be their thesis advisor.
    4. Must complete the M.Sc. with a minimum 75 GPA
    5. Up to 4 courses totaling 12 credits
